Grass Roots Initiative is a community focused initiative that encourages and financially supports individuals, groups and organizations to develop programs and projects that make the community a better place in which a child can grow up. This program promotes neighbourhood commitment and participation.
Jennifer Fullarton’s daughter Karli, Spencer1who was diagnosed with autism, is non-verbal, but a toy horse set at home showed mom a window into a desire her little one may be trying to articulate. “She stands over the top of it and she pretends she’s riding it,” the mother said. “It might be her way of saying she wants to go horseback riding.”
As part of our Grass Roots Initiative program, Rachel’s Kids provided $5,000 to secure time for local children on the autism spectrum to enjoy some time riding a horse at Brave Hearts’ therapeutic horse program in Apple Spencer2Hill.
