On April 2nd, Rachel’s Kids invites our community to light it up blue for autism awareness month! “Let Your Blue Shine Through” is a Rachel’s Kids initiative that is near and dear to our hearts. With April being autism awareness month, we’re excited to take this opportunity to launch our campaign to help educate our community. Chaired by a very special young man who can truly identify with the campaign, Rachel’s Kids is ready to paint the town blue.
Kalem Payment is 13 years old and was diagnosed with moderate to severe autism at the age of 3, but that label never defined him. He is extremely funny, energetic, has a great big heart and loves people and the spotlight.
“We have known Kalem from a very young age and have seen how determination and perseverance can have such a positive outcome for someone on the autism spectrum” says Kim Lauzon, Rachel’s Kids Executive Director. “When we decided to launch this very special initiative, we could not have imagined a better person to represent Rachel’s Kids. He lights up a room with his outgoing personality, his vibrant laugh and his kind heart.”
In “light” of this initiative, Rachel’s Kids will have various related merchandise to sell during the campaign onsite and in local stores and events. All proceeds from our campaign is given right back to our community.
Autism merchandise can be purchased at Rachel’s Kids at 850 Boundary Road. We can also be reached by calling (613)933-3946.
If you see Kalem out in the community, make sure to say hi, shake his hand, give him a high five or maybe a great big hug! He loves those.
